What can we learn about decision-making from sporting match officials?
How can we make accurate, high-quality decisions, quickly, under high pressure with incomplete or ambiguous information? In order to help answer this question my co-author (Behavioural Strategist Warren Kennaugh) and I have interviewed more than 50 match officials from across a number of sports including AFL, Australian Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League and A-League soccer to find out how they make consistently accurate decisions quickly on the run in stressful situations with incomplete information.
